  • The Co-operative Bank has an exciting new role for an Economic Crime Support to join our Group’s Economic Crime Risk & Change Team, working alongside operational, digital, change and product teams to ensure evolving regulatory expectations are understood and satisfied. We are an innovative team, using the latest technology to tackle economic crime in an enterprise-wide context. A central hub in the wider economic crime function which drives change and response to the ever-evolving threat and risk landscape.

    Bringing strong understanding of AML & Sanctions, the role holder will confidently act as a subject matter expert, engaging positively with key stakeholders and keeping pace with changing internal and external expectations. The person in post should also have a drive for change and continuous improvement with a passion to reduce economic crime and the detrimental impact it can have on our customers and the Group.

    Acting as a point of contact for day-to-day Financial Crime Operations queries or review, our Economic Crime Support team-member will be building relationships with internal stakeholders and to provide expertise where there are AML & Sanctions risk across the Group. The person in post will support with complex investigations ensuring the appropriate level of information is available to complete a risk event, root cause analysis and to identify emerging issues. There will also be opportunities to deliver ad-hoc awareness to relevant business areas to maintain the Group’s risk profile as well as providing expertise and consultancy support across the Group ensuring AML & Sanctions are considered when making business decisions.

    We operate on a team led hybrid approach with at least 1 day a month in the Manchester office.

  • About you

  • Naturally curious, you will have well developed analytical, planning and organising skills, an attention to detail, a high level of accuracy and the ability to work on your own initiative. You will be inquisitive, methodical and highly organised in your approach. You will be able to prioritise different requirements as required, be confident to present your conclusions both verbally and in writing to a high standard. You will have the natural ability to want to make decisions based on fact rather than presumption and be able to adapt your approach in the moment and confident enough to persuade and motivate others through collaboration and at times, challenge the status quo.

    For this role you’ll need to have:

    · Experience working within an economic crime department with strong knowledge of the economic crime space, with practical experience of working in risk and/or advisory.

    · Experience working within projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

    · Practical knowledge of economic crime techniques and processes to mitigate risks.

    · A comprehensive understanding of the financial services industry and matters affecting it.

    · The ability to work alone as well as a team and be self-motivated in identifying and solving problems.

    · The knowledge to identify trends within root causes and understand the wider implications of a problem.

    Experience in these areas would be helpful:

    · Educated to degree level, equivalent economic crime qualification or significant economic crime experience.

    · Strong report writing skills and experience creating formal documentation to support with the mitigation of risk.

    · Experience working to time sensitive deadlines, with an ability to self-prioritise workload where appropriate.
