Senior Financial Crime Officer (Nominated Officer Function)

The role:
We are looking for a Senior Financial Crime Officer to join our team on a 12 month secondment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in reporting any suspicious activity in the business that might be linked to Money Laundering or Terrorist Financing, and report it to the relevant authorities in a timely manner. You will review SARs submitted to the Nominated Officer function by AML Operations, and evaluate whether there are grounds for knowledge or suspicion of Money Laundering or Terrorist Financing.
Key Accountabilities:
- Understand, maintain and apply knowledge on AML regulation within role, specifically POCA 2002 and TACT 2000.
- Giving colleagues clear guidance on identifying suspicious activity and reporting it in a timely manner. In addition, encourage colleagues to refer to the Bank’s written documents whenever they need to, and seek more guidance where required.
- Provide an independent and objective validation of SARs submitted by AML Operations, to determine if the suspicion or unusual activity should be reported to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
- Provide specialist advice, support and guidance as required using AML and Regulatory knowledge and experience in relation to the quality of internal Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
- Report any suspicious activity or transactions to the NCA as soon as practicable, where there are grounds for suspicion, by completing and submitting an external SAR via the NCA portal.
- Request a defence to a money laundering offence (DAML/DATF) from the NCA, in relation to reported suspicious transactions (pre-advised or event driven), and ensure that no transactions are continued within the legal time frame i.e. 7 days, extended to a further 31 days (moratorium period) up to a maximum of 186 days.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
- Confident and highly experienced within Financial Services and Financial Crime prevention, specifically SARs.
- Sound knowledge of Banking regulation and legislation
- Deep understanding of the Money Laundering Regulatory framework
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to deal with difficult conversations.
