About the role

 

The purpose of the Secured Credit Risk Manager will be to lead and manage Secured Credit Risk Analysts to ensure that the Secured Strategies and Controls are optimised and Risk Appetite is managed. This will involve managing team members to undertake portfolio data analysis to support understanding of:

 

*       Portfolio performance, actual and forecast – articulate movements and variance to Plan.

*       Decision engine performance (stability and performance of scorecards and referral rules etc.)

*       Understand, challenge and report on variations in operation performance and the impact on portfolio performances.

*       Recommend changes to credit strategy/policy.

*       Monitor risk profile of new business and at source channel level.

*       Effectiveness of arrears strategies and production of analytics and MI that drives improvements

*       Support the generation of insight, plans, controls, processes and revisions in a timely and effective manner.

 

Requirements

 

*                Strong experience of credit risk management and associated analytical techniques and practices. This should include knowledge of scorecards, pricing, forecasting, & provisioning calculations

*                Strong understanding of acquisition, customer management and arrears processes, systems and practices along with commercial, financial and legislative requirements and issues affecting the wider financial services industry

*                Management experience, leading, developing and driving the performance of Analysts both within direct reporting line and outside

*                Strong communication (written and verbal) skills, including well developed presentation skills

*                Planning and organisation expertise – including proven track record within a credit risk management environment in developing creative solutions to complex issues and delivery within defined timescales

*                Strong experience of credit risk management and associated analytical techniques and practices, include knowledge of scorecards, pricing, forecasting methodologies, & provisioning calculations

*                Ability to analyse and present data & information using industry standard interrogation and statistical packages (SAS, SPSS et al)

 

Key Accountabilities

 

*       Manage and support the development of risk appetite limits and risk models through application of key risk drivers as directed.

*       Lead on analysis to support/determine the development of credit risk strategies and controls to ensure that new lending is originated in accordance with the Credit Risk Principal Risk Policy and Credit Risk Control Standard and risk appetite of the Bank, including appropriate credit score cut-offs, refer/decline rules, risk based pricing strategies, limit strategies, affordability assessments and cross sell eligibility at the point of application.

*       Manage oversight and reporting of the profile of business written against plan and key drivers of risk, highlighting variations and recommending actions as appropriate.

*       Review the effectiveness of credit risk controls and strategies including performance against key risk indicators, benchmarking against other lenders and analysis of actual performance against expectations, providing insights into any variances, with recommendations for corrective action where necessary.

*       Ensure the development, maintenance and reporting of appropriate credit score cut offs and risk based pricing strategies.

*       Provide input to ensure that all scorecards and associated decision engines are built, operate and are calibrated in line with expectations. Are up to date and reviewed on a regular basis. 

*       Escalate performance concerns as appropriate.

*       Drive analysis to underpin the development of credit risk strategies and controls

*       Review and investigate product and service design to ensure that risks are identified and appropriate controls are in place to manage those risks.

*       Investigate issues identifying and highlighting trends and emerging issues, together with the identification and development of appropriate solutions to improve the customer experience and business performance.

*       Deliver analytical management information and analysis to support senior management requests. These will include channel, product and cohort splits.

*       Present to relevant forums the performance of credit risk strategies, emerging trends and issues, providing recommendations as appropriate.

*       Evaluate and establish information sources, and carry out research activity, so that analysis can be undertaken based on sound and up-to-date data.

*       Build and maintain relationships and networks, internally and externally, seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to support continuous improvement.

*       Keep knowledge up to date in respect of credit risk management and develop skills to enhance personal capability in the role.

*       Lead the secured portfolio management and secured arrears management teams

*       Report via quality documentation to senior management in the first and second line on the credit risk performance of the portfolio against key risk indicators explaining the reasons for movement in portfolio or arrears
