Commercial Banking - Relationship Manager (SME Banking)

As a Relationship Manager you will be an ambassador for the Co-operative Bank and all that we stand for in the local business community, providing a first class service to new and existing customers in addition to supporting their lending requirements.  The focus of the role will be building your portfolio of larger SME businesses operating in the £2m+ turnover space with lending requirements between £0.5m- £10m.

 

Key accountabilities:

 

*       Working on your own and as part of the wider team identify potential customers whose values and ethics are aligned to our own and lead them through the journey to becoming Co-operative Bank customers.

*       Maintain and manage relationships with an assigned customer portfolio to ensure a high level of satisfaction with the service provided and to maximise business return.

*       Contribute to SME portfolio lending, income and deposit growth targets

*       Forge strong links in the local business community to create awareness of the values and ethics, services and products of the Co-operative Bank.

*       Complete credit applications from initial client enquiry through the various stages of gathering the required financial and organisation information, writing the credit paper, negotiating as required with credit officers, dealing with sanction conditions and moving deals through to drawdown.

 

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

 

*       Experience in Relationship Management/Business Development roles

*       Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of people

*       Strong credit & numeracy skills in a commercial lending environment

*       Ability to work remotely and as part of wider team adopting a flexible approach

*       Reliable and ethical, respecting customers’ confidentiality

*       Strong negotiation skills

*       Strong decision making skills and the ability to take the lead

*       Ability to manage risk

*       Proactive and highly self-motivated

*       Confident selling and marketing products

*       Ability to explain complex information in simple terms

*       Ability to identify the features and benefits of products and services

*       Knowledge of individual Commercial Banking sectors desirable.
