The role:

 

The Lead Product Owner is responsible for leading and implementing the strategy, roadmap, and feature definition across the end-to-end life cycle of products or small portfolios. The Lead Product Owner will create and own the vision for the Product based on expert understanding of user needs in parallel with the business Service Owner’s vision.

 

The Lead Product Owner is accountable for the end-to-end design, delivery, operations, and quality for a specified Product. They will support the Business Owner in defining the value case for investment and associated benefits realisation. They will lead a diverse, cross functional team providing both line management and matrix management where relevant but always supporting and coaching, ensuring they work together to develop and prioritise a single product roadmap and backlog.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leading a multidisciplinary team adopting appropriate agile frameworks/methodologies and tools to deliver complex, high risk or sensitive products and iteratively improve them through several delivery cycles.
  • Managing, supporting, and coaching a product delivery team to ensure agreed deliverables are achieved.
  • Engaging with senior stakeholders and users to ensure they are clear on the benefits of the product and that their feedback is being used to inform ongoing improvements.
  • Defining, explaining, and iterating a product vision that is compelling to your users, team, and stakeholders.
  • Setting measurable goals for your product and report against these to demonstrate progress against stated benefits.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

  • Demonstrable time applying product management methodologies or having driven product improvement and client impacting projects.
  • A good understanding of the drivers of value in your specific product area, including the ability to size and prioritise initiatives across business units and functions.
  • Experience of product management with a passion for evolving great digital products by leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of managing the development of complex and/or high-risk products.
  • Experience of managing, leading, and developing a team, including matrix-management. 
  • Capable of engaging with users and turning user insight into product improvements, relating to specific business areas / Target Operating Model.
  • Experience in designing digital services for high profile consumer and niche audiences and commitment to creating excellent user experiences. 
  • An ability to set, monitor and report measurable product performance targets. 
  • Experience of multiple product management frameworks, delivery techniques and tools.
  • Strong digital research, analysis and reporting skills, including experience of designing, interpreting, and drawing out key conclusions from research and known business objectives.
  • Ability to communicate in a compelling manner with all levels of management and across all functional areas – both written and oral.
