The role:
The focus of our Business Development Manager is to contribute to the bank’s asset growth in SME by maximising lending opportunities across the UK commercial banking marketing supporting organisations that typically require lending facilities of over £2m.
You will be an ambassador for the Co-operative Bank providing a first class service to prospective customers supporting their lending requirements and working with our existing relationship management team to close deals.
This role will cover all of the UK with the ideal candidate being based in the northwest due to our main client and team location. This role is a 12 month secondment with possibility to go perm due to asset growth.
Key Accountabilities:
* Working on your own and as part of the wider team build your own introducer network, develop and drive relationships to support origination.
* Contribute to SME portfolio lending, income and deposit growth targets
* Work in collaboration with established Relationship Management team to ensure successful client acquisition from origination to completion. Throughout you will ensure you provide a high level of customer satisfaction.
* Forge strong links in the local business/introducer community to create awareness of the values and ethics, services and products of the Co-operative Bank.
* High level of credit skills and credit applications from initial client enquiry through the various stages of gathering the required financial and organisation information, writing the credit paper, negotiating as required with credit officers, dealing with sanction conditions and moving deals through to drawdown
* Support the SME Banking strategy as appropriate ensuring new processes and procedures are adopted and implemented fully.
* Be an Ambassador of the Bank and SME Banking at all internal and external forums, events and networking opportunities, role model for the team
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
* Ability to travel to customer locations as required.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Good presentation skills
* Sales / Business Development experience in the SME Business Finance sector with an established network of local contacts, introducers and broker relationships.
* Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of people
* Strong customer service ethic
* Strong credit and numeracy skills in a commercial lending environment
* Ability to work remotely and as part of a wider team adopting flexible in approach
* Reliable and ethical, respecting customers’ confidentiality
* Strong negotiation skills
* Strong decision making skills and the ability to take the lead
* Ability to manage risk
* Proactive and highly self-motivated
* Confident selling and marketing products
* Comfortable approaching people
* Ability to explain complex information in simple terms
